Baby Wisdom

Linda Franklin-Biggs

Meet Linda

Let's begin with how BabyWisdom was born. My name is Linda Franklin-Biggs, and I am a professional educator who combined my passion for children with my passion for music by becoming a music teacher in the elementary school system 29 years ago, retiring in 2023. My dedication to nurturing young minds didn't end when I retired from public school. I play an important role in advocating for early learning and promoting it in a child's life.

I've been intrigued with babies since I was very young. My first job, at age 11, I was entrusted to take care of my neighbor's newborn baby from 10 am to 5 pm every weekday during the summer. I was also raised in a large family, and my mother was a nurse, so I learned a lot about babies at a young age.

By the time I gave birth to my own firstborn at the age of 27, I already had more than 2 decades of experience with babies. My husband even asked me, "Why does it look like you know what you're doing?" As my children grew and had children of their own, I earned the nickname "Baby Whisperer" because of how well I was able to quickly calm an upset baby or communicate and bond with them.

When I went back to college to get my Master's Degree, I took a course in Vocal Pedagogy that not only changed my way of teaching but also sparked a thought about how babies learn to speak. In 2013, I began my experiment with my granddaughter, which resulted in her starting to say her alphabet at the age of 10 months old.

She was fully conversant by 12 months old, and at 24 months, she was labeled "Talented and Gifted" by the pediatrician. My granddaughter isn't anyone special, and she's not some kind of savant. The message is that anyone who understands how the voice works and how babies learn to talk can do exactly what I did. This is why BabyWisdom was born. I am speaking at events, live and via Zoom, to not only get this message out but to share how to do it.

It's important to start right away because the brain has a process called synapse pruning that starts at 24 months old! If you're not sure how to get started, I offer live Zoom coaching sessions as well!

I help parents understand the critical window of opportunity that exists in the first 24 months of a baby's life, a window that previously was thought to be six years. Learning that synapse pruning first occurs around 24 months, further strengthened the rationale for working with babies right from birth.

After I completed my studies for my master's degree, I experimented with newfound knowledge of how the voice works and used music techniques not only to teach the baby to start saying the alphabet at ten months of age but also to be fully conversant by twelve months and subsequently become labeled 'talented and gifted' by the pediatrician at twenty-four months of age.

I now share the information and techniques necessary to easily duplicate this and hop eventually this will change the face of education in America.
